5 Pro. Have you heard of this?
(00:00:42) Female AI: I have, yeah. It’s essentially their most advanced AI model to date, right?(00:00:47) Male AI: Okay.(00:00:47) Female AI: So this is really Google putting their best foot forward.(00:00:50) Mike Allton: Welcome to AI in marketing unpacked, where we simplify AI for impactful marketing. Welcome back to a special episode of AI Marketing Unpacked. One where I’m taking the unusual route of diving into a new bit of AI technology that I think is going to blow your mind. And I couldn’t wait to share it. And because it’s something you have to hear for yourself, I couldn’t think of a better way to demonstrate then on this show.
Imagine having a partner in your marketing efforts, who’s available 24 seven, can digest vast amount of information in seconds and can engage in deep insightful conversations about your specific projects and campaigns. What if this partner could not only help you summarize research and brainstorm strategies, but also create recorded overviews and discussions, almost like a podcast cohost.
This isn’t science fiction, it’s the reality of what’s possible with Google’s latest update to Notebook LM, an AI powered research assistant that’s revolutionizing how marketers approach content creation and strategy. Notebook LM is designed to be your personalized AI collaborator. You can load it up with your own resources and information, then have conversations with it as if it’s a knowledgeable team member who’s intimately familiar with your projects.
But here’s where it gets really interesting. Notebook LM can generate audio conversations between AI created hosts, discussing the very information you’ve provided to showcase this groundbreaking capability. I’ve done something a bit meta for today’s episode. I created a new notebook. In notebook LM, and I filled it with information about the tool itself.
Then I used its conversational feature to generate a five minute segment with two AI podcast hosts talking about notebook LM. What you’re about to hear is that AI generated conversation. It’s provided as an audio only wave file, which I’ve inserted into this podcast episode, listen closely to how coherent, informative, and natural it sounds.
This isn’t just a demonstration of NotebookLM’s capabilities. It’s a glimpse into the future of content creation and marketing strategy. After this segment, I’ll come back. We’ll dive into what this means for marketers, exploring the potential applications and implications of this technology. So let’s jump in and hear what AI has to say about itself.
(00:03:42) Male AI: Ever feel like you’re just drowning in research? Today, we are diving into Google’s answer. To that. Um, yeah. NotebookLM.(00:03:49) Female AI: All right.(00:03:49) Male AI: And they are calling it your AI research assistant.(00:03:53) Female AI: Mm hmm.(00:03:54) Male AI: Not just any assistant. Right. But yours.(00:03:56) Female AI: Right.(00:03:57) Male AI: Personalized.(00:03:57) Female AI: Yeah.(00:03:58) Male AI: So is it all hype?(00:03:59) Female AI: Yeah. Let’s(00:03:59) Male AI: unpack this a little bit.(00:04:00) Female AI: Yeah. What I find fascinating is this idea of a truly personalized research experience because they’re really leaning into that. Like, throughout all these marketing snippets, we see this language of like,(00:04:12) Male AI: Totally.(00:04:12) Female AI: It’s going to be an expert on your information. Yeah.(00:04:15) Male AI: Right.(00:04:15) Female AI: Which is a bold claim.(00:04:17) Male AI: It is a bold claim.(00:04:18) Female AI: It’s very ambitious.(00:04:19) Male AI: Yeah. Because just imagine, right? Like you upload everything.(00:04:22) Female AI: Oh my God.(00:04:23) Male AI: All of your note articles, even those little scribbled ideas on the back of a napkin.(00:04:27) Female AI: Yeah.(00:04:28) Male AI: Notebook LM just gets it.(00:04:30) Female AI: Just synthesizes it.(00:04:31) Male AI: Knows what you’re after before you even ask.(00:04:35) Female AI: That’s the dream, right?(00:04:36) Male AI: Like the ultimate research buddy.(00:04:37) Female AI: Exactly.(00:04:38) Male AI: And it’s powered by this thing called Gemini 1. 5 Pro If you heard of this,(00:04:43) Female AI: I have. Yeah. It’s essentially their most advanced AI model to date. Great.(00:04:48) Male AI: Okay.(00:04:49) Female AI: So this is really Google putting their best foot forward. It seems like.(00:04:53) Male AI: Interesting. Okay. So it’s got a powerful engine.(00:04:55) Female AI: Mm hmm.(00:04:56) Male AI: But they’re also promising to take you from information to insight in a snap.(00:05:01) Female AI: Right.(00:05:01) Male AI: And that’s a bold claim.(00:05:03) Female AI: It is.(00:05:04) Male AI: Because we’ve all experienced the frustration of sifting through endless articles and being like, Ugh.(00:05:10) Female AI: Absolutely. Where’s the(00:05:11) Male AI: insight?(00:05:11) Female AI: Yeah.(00:05:12) Male AI: What makes this different?(00:05:13) Female AI: So this is where I think this idea of the personalized guide that they keep mentioning comes in. Okay.
It’s not just summarizing information, it’s about connecting the dots in a way that’s relevant to you. Okay. So imagine you upload a research paper. Right. And you instantly get this roadmap of the key takeaways, the arguments, the potential counterpoints, all tailored to your specific needs.
(00:05:35) Male AI: Okay, now that’s starting to sound seriously impressive.(00:05:38) Female AI: Yeah.(00:05:39) Male AI: But with all this talk about AI and insight generation, it’s easy to wonder, like, where’s the line between assistance and just making stuff up?(00:05:48) Female AI: Oh, absolutely. And I think that’s a valid concern with any AI tool, right? Totally. Especially in the research space. Yeah. But it seems like Google is very aware of that concern because they repeatedly emphasize that Notebook LM is source grounded.
So if it highlights a key takeaway, It’ll point you back to the exact source, the page number, like think meticulous footnotes, but for all your research. Okay.
(00:06:11) Male AI: That’s a good way to put it. Yeah. So it’s like, you still have that paper trail.(00:06:14) Female AI: It’s not(00:06:15) Male AI: just like, Oh, the AI said this and I trust it. It’s not in the void.
You’re like, okay, it actually came from this page of this study.
(00:06:21) Female AI: Yeah.(00:06:22) Male AI: Interesting. Yeah.(00:06:23) Female AI: And they also highlight data privacy a lot, which I think is interesting.(00:06:26) Male AI: Yeah.(00:06:27) Female AI: Your uploaded information is not being used to train their AI,(00:06:31) Male AI: right?(00:06:32) Female AI: It’s all about keeping your research yours.(00:06:34) Male AI: Which I think is a big concern that a lot of people have right now.
Absolutely. It’s like, is my data being used to train some AI model?
(00:06:42) Female AI: Right. Are you going to steal my thoughts?(00:06:44) Male AI: Exactly. And then.(00:06:46) Female AI: And so it seems like they’re trying to address that head on.(00:06:49) Male AI: And. They’re also trying to build trust, I think, through this endorsement from Tiago Forte.(00:06:55) Female AI: Oh, yeah.(00:06:55) Male AI: Who you might know as the mastermind behind the building a second brain system.(00:06:59) Female AI: Right. He literally wrote the book on personal knowledge management.(00:07:03) Male AI: Exactly. He called NotebookLM, quote, the best software ever created for leveraging AI in your creative work.(00:07:11) Female AI: Wow. Wow.(00:07:13) Male AI: Which is high praise coming from someone who literally wrote the book on this. So it seems like they’re really onto something here.(00:07:21) Female AI: It seems like it. Yeah. Because his whole philosophy revolves around organizing information in a way that sparks new ideas and connections. Right. So for him to endorse this. Suggests that it goes beyond just summarizing information. It helps you think differently. It’s(00:07:37) Male AI: like it helps you synthesize the information and then apply it and then think differently about it.(00:07:41) Female AI: Yeah. It’s bridging that gap between having information and like understanding it.(00:07:46) Male AI: Yes.(00:07:47) Female AI: Applying, building on it.(00:07:48) Male AI: That’s what I’m really getting from all this is it’s not just about having access to information anymore. Right. It’s what you do with it. Exactly. And it seems like this is trying to push us in that direction.(00:07:58) Female AI: Yeah. And that’s the real question here, is it? What is(00:08:01) Male AI: the real question?(00:08:01) Female AI: How will your unique research process benefit from this? Ooh. What new discoveries might become possible?(00:08:09) Male AI: I like that.(00:08:10) Female AI: That’s what I’m most curious to explore.(00:08:12) Male AI: Yeah. It’s exciting. It’s a little scary.(00:08:15) Female AI: Always.(00:08:15) Male AI: But it’s the future.(00:08:16) Female AI: It is the future.(00:08:17) Male AI: This has been a fascinating glimpse into NotebookLM.(00:08:20) Female AI: It has.(00:08:21) Male AI: It’s clearly more than just a glorified note taking app.(00:08:23) Female AI: Way more.(00:08:24) Male AI: They’re aiming to redefine how we interact with information.(00:08:28) Female AI: Mm hmm.(00:08:29) Male AI: And I think that’s a really powerful thing.(00:08:31) Female AI: Absolutely.(00:08:31) Male AI: So until next time, happy researching, everyone.(00:08:34) Female AI: Happy researching.(00:08:34) Mike Allton: All right, folks, wasn’t that something? We just witnessed the future of content creation powered by Google’s NotebookLM. Let’s break down what we just heard and explore what this means for us as marketers. First off, did you notice how natural and engaging that conversation sounded to AI generative voices discussing a complex topic with enthusiasm, insight, and even a touch of humor?
It’s mind blowing to think that this entire dialogue was created by an AI based on information I fed into NotebookLM. In mere moments. Let’s talk about the quality and coherence of this AI generated content. The hosts covered key features of notebookLM, like it’s personalization capabilities, the powerful Gemini 1.
5 pro model behind it, and its ability to provide source grounded. They even touched on privacy concerns and brought in a relevant expert endorsement. This level of coherence and depth is impressive to say the least. And of course, it’s all based on the information I provided. It isn’t going out on the web and finding or creating or hallucinating anything else.
So what does this mean for us marketers? The potential applications are huge content, ideation and research. I mean, just imagine uploading all your market research, customer data, and competitor analysis in the notebookLM. You could have in depth conversations about trends, opportunities, and strategies, all grounded in your specific data, podcast creation, and scripting as we just witnessed.
NotebookLM can generate entire podcast style conversations. This could revolutionize how we approach podcast planning and content creation. Blog posts and article writing with its ability to synthesize information and provide insights. Notebook LM could be an invaluable tool for crafting well researched insightful articles and of course, social media content generation by feeding it your brand guidelines and key messages.
You could use notebookLM to generate a variety of social media posts, each tailored to your specific audience and goals. Now, of course, with great power comes great responsibility. We need to consider the ethical implications of using AI generated content. Transparency with our audience is crucial. And while NotebookLM can be an incredible tool, it shouldn’t replace human creativity and strategic thinking.
